Let Them Come

Kids from Burma

Dear Friends and Family,

“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’” – Matthew 19:14 (NIV)

Grace House Children Home

This month we were encouraged to have a team from Minnesota come help us at the children home and with ministry around Mae Hong Son.  We spent several days with the children of Grace House, including some cooling off time at the waterfall activities, at church and a special suki dinner (noodle & meatball).  With new shirts and sandals for getting ready for the coming school year, our kids greatly appreciated the gifts from our friends as well.  We also invited all the village kids to the school near our home and had a great time doing a VBS featuring the stories of creation and Noah’s ark.

At one of the nearby Kayan villages, we were able to arrange for 30 Kayan kids to come by boat from a poor village in Burma to the Thai side (we did try to go to Burma but the Thai soldiers wouldn’t let us).  We tried to make this a special day for the kids and all the smiles told us they really enjoyed the many games, dramas, crafts, snacks and stories on God’s goodness and faithfulness.

Both the Burmese and Thai Kayan villages do not have clinics or regular health checkups.  But with a heart to help, our friends were able to donate medicine and clothing to help meet these needs.

These trips to the other villages were also the first time we included some of our kids in outreaches.  Our two oldest girls, Canaan and Esther, have a heart for ministry and are looking to attend Bible school after high school.  They have shown great maturity and are learning to share the gospel as well as translate and lead songs and games.  They also want to learn to play guitar.  Currently, the ministry does not have a guitar for them to use but if you are interested in helping, please contact us.

Shan and Pa-O Ministry

We were warmly invited back in late April to the Pa-O & Shan at the orange grove to continue sharing the gospel and helping them understand the promises of God.  This included biblical teachings of Christ, dramas and showing the “Jesus Film” in the Shan language.  This approach seemed to work well as most never learned to read and write.  The team was even able to translate the “Jesus Overcomes” song into the Pa-O language and teach it to the people.  The result of that trip was about 40 people affirming or reaffirming they want Jesus in their life.

During our latest visit in May, we were able to spend not only the evenings with all the people (as they typically work every day), but the day too as we came on a major Thai holiday and prepared a special Shan dish for about 100 people.  We also had several activities and games for the people before hand, all of which helped build relationships.  In addition, we invited the local churches to be a part of the outreach and had a wonderful turn out and much fellowship.

Several of us were also able to visit people at their homes, getting to know them better and have more personal fellowship.  One lady we visited expressed the joy she has had in her life since praying to receive Christ.  She has been urging her family members to do the same as well.  And as we asked if we could pray for something for her, she said yes.  Above all else, she wanted to make sure her sins were forgiven.  At this, we were pleased to pray for her to have this great assurance.

Please also join us in prayer as we continue this ministry to the Pa-O and Shan.

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.  May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. – 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (NIV)

  • Praise God for a great team from Minnesota and trip to Mae Hong Son!
  • Praise God for New Hope Church and Heart Cry Ministry.  Our truck recently broke down and they completely blessed us by paying for the truck repairs!
  • Praise God for all His work among the Pa-O and Shan
  • Praise God we are making progress but we also need prayer for full monthly financial support and partnership.
  • Continued prayer for the Grace House children as they will be starting the next school year soon
  • Pray for the Kayan village school to have a full number of teachers and enough students for all the grades (k-9)
  • Further prayer for my learning the Thai language, especially as I start learning to read and write Thai

May God’s grace be upon you,

Jeff & Tiff
